Power Forge Advanced covers
Forging is mostly done under the B & S Massey 153kg (3cwt) Clear Space pneumatic hammer in Power Forge Advanced. The use of various dies under the power hammer to create different sections for use in decorative work and other functions. Stamping, using tooling and forms is explored. Techniques, such as team forging, and the use of overhead lifting gear with a spring-mounted endless chain, is undertaken to highlight the possibilities of working larger stock. Techniques such as cutting, punching and drifting, rolling, bending and breaking down heavier stock is also part of the experience.
Course duration
Running over four consecutive eight-hour days, Wilkur Forge Power Forge Advanced courses are scheduled as per the Wilkur Forge Course Calendar. Maximum participant numbers are reduced in this course as we work under one of two hammers at a time, which gives participants more time using these machines.
Please note - Power Forge Advanced is NOT included in Power Forge Intensive.
Workshop facilities
Power Forge Advanced runs with two to four participants who use coke forges in conjunction with the B & S Massey 153kg (3cwt) Clear Space pneumatic hammer. Maximum participant numbers are reduced in this course as this gives participants more time using this machine. Other workshop tools are used as required in co-operation with fellow participants. There is plenty of room to move and time to ask questions and learn.
The pace is quite fast and the work challenging in Power Forge Advanced as this course is intended to replicate industrial work.
