Hand Forge Intermediate covers
Using coke forges techniques such as piercing, splitting, punching and fire welding are explained and demonstrated before you are encouraged to experience using these fundamental blacksmithing techniques.
In Hand Forge Intermediate we begin by making a number of tools. Some tongs and hand tools, such as hammer heads, hot setts, flatters, punches, chisels and drifts, are made using hand forging techniques including striking for other course participants. Once the tools are made we set about punching and slitting pieces of bar which are then formed into decorative parts used create some ornamental brackets. Assembling of the parts is done with some blacksmithing joinery. You take the brackets home, along with the tooling you make along the way, to help with your future projects.
