Power Forge Intermediate covers
Forging techniques using predominantly pneumatic power hammers are explained and demonstrated. You are then encouraged to experience using these techniques. Use of hammer tooling is explored in detail.
Working singly, in pairs or in threes course participants experience using different hammer tooling under the forging machines.
Generation of two and three-way forgings is undertaken with the hammers. Tools such as sharp-edged blocks, convex and concave formers, stakes and bickerns are made, complete with surface finishing and heat treatments. These projects are to highlight how power forging can move material in different ways. The finishing techniques involve free-hand belt linishing and polishing. You take the tooling you make home along the way to help with your future projects.
