Hand Forge Advanced is Wilkur Forge's high-range hand forging course.
In Hand Forge Advanced tool making is the primary focus, with the fundamental blacksmithing techniques and skills learnt in the Wilkur Forge Hand Forge Basics and Intermediate courses expanded upon.
Suited to
Those who have experience from working in their own forge and wish to further develop their hand forging knowledge.
This course is NOT suited to novices.
Skill prerequisites
Successful completion of Wilkur Forge’s Hand Forge Intermediate course. If you have undertaken a hand forging course elsewhere please contact Wilkur Forge to determine if this course is for you.
Hand Forge Advanced covers
Hand Forge Advanced is an in-depth study of making tools for making tools. Sett hammers, flatters, top and bottom swages, fullers and punches, among others, will be created.
Workshop heat treatment – annealing, normalising, hardening and tempering - will be carried out on the tools made.
Course duration
Running over four consecutive eight-hour days, Wilkur Forge Hand Forge Advanced courses are scheduled as per the Wilkur Forge Course Calendar.
Participants
One Day Forge runs with two to six participants, giving everyone plenty of time to ask questions and learn.
