One Day Forge covers
Lighting the coke forge and fire management, as these skills are crucial to a successful day's forging. The main blacksmithing tools and their functions and forge layout are explained.
You'll use the anvil, hand hammers and some of the other tools you'd expect to find in a blacksmith's shop to forge some items to take home.
Forging begins with drawing out points on square and round bars. After some practice, points are forged onto carbon steel bar. After hardening and tempering using the coke forge, you’ll have a scriber and a punch made, by you, to take home.
Some mild steel bars will be twisted in various ways to explore the different effects each type of twist has on the steel. Next, the bars are bent to create useful hooks for use in the home or workshop, or as a gift. If you finish these jobs there are additional projects you can tackle.
If you've always wanted to try forging but have had trouble finding somewhere to do so, Wilkur Forge can help.
NOTE - knifemaking is NOT covered in One Day Forge. Please refer to Hand Forge Basics and Power Forge Basics.
